New York City traffic is bad enough without fame-seekers staging unauthorized photoshoots in the middle of the road. New Yorkers also aren’t generally the type of people to silently stand by when someone’s in their way.
So when YouTuber Coby Persin double parked in the middle of a busy avenue in midtown to take some glamour shots with his fancy car — narrowing traffic into just two crawling lanes — a whole lot of honking ensured.
But one driver in particular took the traffic situation into his own hands, climbing out of his own car to deliver a little hands-on justice to the social media star in his way.
Road rage: A man took a baseball bat to a car that was illegally double parked and causing traffic
Coby, 22, is known for his YouTube ‘pranks’ and ‘social experiments’, including a recent viral video in which he teaches a ‘gold digger’ a lesson.
This time, though, it was Coby himself who was taught a lesson — both for blocking traffic and seeking attention.
In an unedited video that he posted himself on Twitter, Coby and a friend can be seen sitting on the hood of a gold BMW i8 — a luxury car that costs about $140,000.
The upward-swinging doors are open, and the two seem completely unconcerned that they are causing traffic behind them. It seems unlikely that they had a permit for the ‘photoshoot’.
Making moves: The stranger strikes the front windshield before walking away and getting back in his car
Cars slowly drive past, many honking at the obstacle in their way. But one driver soon finds himself stuck directly behind Coby’s car, possibly having trouble merging into the center lane.
Angered, the man can be seen in the back of the video exiting the car and walking around to the back to retrieve something from the front. Seconds later he is walking up the side, and Coby’s entourage begins pointing at him and yelling out in warning.
Coby and his friend hop off the hood of the car as the stranger approaches, then swiftly swings the bat down into the windshield, denting it. He then seems to return to his car and drive off.
‘Was doing photoshoot in NYC and this crazy guy comes out with a Bat and Smashed my Windshield!!’ Coby wrote on Instagram.
No one sympathizes: The YouTuber later shared a video of the incident on Twitter with a caption full of outrage
Haha! Twitter users, however, did not sympathize with Coby, telling him he deserved what he got for being so inconsiderate and self-absorbed
What a guy! Several applauded the man who smashed Coby’s windshield
Hope he knows a repair guy: It’s unclear if this is just another one of Coby’s publicity stunts, but if it is, it’s an expensive one
But if he was looking for outrage from his followers, he didn’t get it. People quickly began leaving comments criticizing him for blocking the road and lauding the stranger with the baseball bat as a ‘hero’.
‘I guess he wasn’t happy about you obstructing traffic on Seventh Ave,’ wrote one person.
‘A photoshoot in the middle of a busy NYC street. i think you got what was coming to ya man [sic],’ added another with crying-from-laughing emojis, while a third said: ‘This the funniest s*** ever. Did you get the permits to block traffic for these pics? Guess not. Guy with bat WON.’
While it is certainly possible that this is just another one of Coby’s ‘social experiments’, it does seem like quite an expensive prank. So far, he hasn’t posted any edited version of the event calling it an experiment on YouTube.
